Unco_Ground - Stories Under The Stars_12_lowres-2

In this interactive artwork, the artists ask and answer the question ‘where is your country? Where are you from?’ Posing this question, and discovering different ways of answering it, allows the language of connection to emerge. The artists, as Aboriginal people, reflect on how to define place of origin, and how to find relation within community.

Once the conversation has begun, you are invited to twine with the artists. On a physical and spiritual level, twining nimina (grass) into laritja (string) in the way of Ningimpi Ngini Palawa (Palawa Grandmothers of old times) encourages positivity and yarning in true collaboration.

Your piece of string will be woven into a beautiful tirrina (basket) by Zoe Rimmer, which will endure in future festivals as a symbol of Palawa people and colonial settlers working together.

The Unconformity acknowledges the palawa people as the original and traditional custodians of Lutruwita/Tasmania. We commit to working respectfully to honour their ongoing cultural and spiritual connections to this land.
