Tewkesbury Wharf is the vehicle for Ray Bassett's songwriting, and delves into a wealth of Tasmanian and Australian stories, contemporary and historical. Tewkesbury is a storyteller, bringing together in verse some of our most intriguing tales, along with his own personal observations. A rough-hewn voice elicits the colonial feel for these narratives, at times bordering on a Tasmanian gothic sentiment, and delivers with an energetic fervour that only comes from decades of living these stories.
From convicts, huon piners and outlaws, to a notorious stretch of road down the west side of the island, Tewkesbury has chosen for the Unconformity a handful of Tasmanian songs, all centred on the West Coast of Tasmania.
